摘要
Atmospheric gravity waves (GWs) in the mesosphere–lower thermosphere (MLT) are crucial for the understanding of circulation. However, they are hardly retrieved due to the difficulty in the high-resolution observation of the dynamical environment. Therefore, this paper uses the eight-year (from 2013 to 2020) meteor radar measurements in the MLT region over Mohe (53.5°N, 122.3°E), China to study high-temporal-resolution mesospheric wind and GWs. The 5-min meteor wind measurement of Mohe contains the tidal wave as well as the traditional hourly meteor wind measurements. The strength of GW kinetic energy estimated by the 5-min meteor wind over Mohe shows a temporary and monthly distribution, which is enhanced in winter (December to February) during the period of 0200–1400 UT and in spring (March to May) during the period of 0800–1300 UT. The similarity between the climatological characteristics of GWs in MLT and middle-scale traveling ionospheric disturbance suggests that the Mohe meteor radar can routinely detect GWs with a high temporal resolution.
